What is Airsoft?
The sport of Airsoft (wargaming or, as its more commonly known in the UK, airsoft skirmishing), is, to describe it simply, a group of airsoft enthusiasts running around a site shooting each other and completing objectives and missions (mostly tactical and organised) with a gun which fires a 6mm bb projectile up to rates of 15bbs/sec. Airsoft is similar to paintball; but it's cheaper, more realistic and more fun! Airsoft guns themselves are different from paintball guns in their realism. They are made to reflect real designs such as Glocks, M16s, AK47s, the M249 or even the six-barrelled M134a Minigun as seen in the film Predator! Paintball guns shoot plastic balls that are filled with paint, which break and mark the opponent's body upon impact. Airsoft on the other hand, is a sport based on honesty. When a player feels a hit the person acknowledges this and calls that they have been hit. They will then, depending on particular game rules, be healed by a medic, regenerate (re-enter the game) at a set point or be excluded from the game for a short time. Most sites also have game marshals who help in acknowledging contacts, and most, if not all, sites have fully comprehensive insurance.
What types of games are played in Airsoft?
Game types vary greatly. There are the more paintball style ‘capture the flag’ or ‘last man standing’ games, but there are also more tactical game types such as rescuing a downed pilot and escorting them back to a safe area, or assaulting a fort or building as well as many types of close-quarters games. There are many more types of Airsoft games that exist, but the best way to find out about them is to experience a game day at one of the many sites around the UK. You can hire kit for these days from the organisers and also whilst playing you’ll get the chance to get the feel for Airsoft and to ask the people who play the sport most weeks through the year, any questions you may have.
What types of Airsoft Guns are available?
ALL AIRSOFT GUNS THAT WOLF SELLS ARE 1:1 SCALE REPLICAS!
An airsoft gun is one that fires a 6mm (or sometimes 8mm) plastic ball-bearing projectile at low velocity, typically less than 1 joule (they won't cause physical harm). Many variants of guns are available from concealed-carry guns such as the Glock 26C to the huge M134a Six-barrel mini-gun capable of firing 6,000 bbs a minute. Generally the airsoft replicas mimic their real-steel counterpart’s characteristics e.g. sniper rifles have a long range and are accurate, while shotguns are good for close-range work but lack rate of fire. You choice your weapons depending on how you want to play! Airsoft guns are semi-automatic (fires once when you pull the trigger), fully automatic (fires as many as 20 rounds per second) or single action (you chamber each round). Guns fall into three key subgroups; electric operated, gas operated, and spring operated, but despite the different categories they all used compressed air to fire the bb.
The first types are spring-operated guns. The gun is operated by cocking a mechanism, locking back a spring piston and feeding a bb into the chamber. For example in a spring pistol this means locking back the slide each time before you fire. The majority of these spring guns are cheap, nasty, are poorly constructed, low in power and a complete disappointment. They are often seen advertised for around £15-30 and are well worth avoiding.
WOLF ARMOURIES UNLIKE SOME " AIRSOFT RETAILERS" DOES NOT STOCK THESE GUNS!
Spring Operated Guns
The only spring guns Wolf Armouries sell are high-powered and highly realistic air-cocking shotguns and bolt-action sniper rifles. These guns require the user to cock a reasonably high-powered, spring-loaded piston that propels the bb when the trigger is pulled. Spring replicas include sniper rifles such as the TYPE 96 (replica L96) or the Maruzen APS2. The more popular spring shotguns are the Tokyo Marui SPAS 12 and M3 series (these spring shotguns fire 3 bbs at once!). As standard most of these guns have an output of around 0.8 joules (a basic cheap spring handgun fires between 0.3-0.6 joules). However as these guns are self-loading they fall into a different legally category to other airsoft guns, technically they can be taken above 1 joule and converted to an "airgun". It is for this reason that the sniper rifles can be converted to higher powers (commonly up to 500 fps with a 0.2bb) and employed in the sharp shooter role as they benefit for extra range.
Gas Operated Guns
Gas guns simply use a gas charge to propel the bb, and tend to be semi or fully automatic, the advantage being the user doesn't have to chamber each round. Gas airsoft guns should not be confused with CO2 guns. Airsoft guns typically run off gasses that come under two main categories. Summer/134a gas, or winter/green gas. The gas comes in cans with a fill-nozzle at one end, costing £10-£15 per can. The gas is contained somewhere within the gun is a pressurised reservoir and the reservoir is filled in exactly the same way as a gas lighter. Gas guns are generally a lot more powerful than standard cheap spring guns, firing at about 0.8-1 joules. Because gas mechanisms are so small they can fit inside smaller guns such as pistols and submachine guns.
A majority of the gas airsoft pistols that Wolf Armouries sell are gas blowback guns. This means that when they are fired the gas enters a chamber within the gun before propelling the bb, when a set pressure is reached within the chamber a piston forces the cylinder back and cocks the mechanism. Basically this means that when you firing a gas blow-back the action cycles just like the real thing and the gun produces and small kick as it chambers each round. If you want realism buy a gas blowback! On most models the mechanism locks open when the magazine is empty just like the real thing. You haven't seen an airsoft gun until you've seen a gas blowbacks mechanism whiz backward and forward and the rounds leave the gun. Examples of gas blowbacks include the Glock 17, the Beretta M92F and Sig Sauer P226.
There are also a number of gas pistols that are non-blow back. With these guns the slide doesn’t cycle but they are typically very quiet and are great for those who like to play sniper roles.
Gas operated, shell-ejecting shotguns also are available along with the other main gas operated gun…the sniper rifle. Gas sniper rifles work on the same power principle as pistols. In most cases, sniper rifles are bolt actions and the user has to load each round, giving another sense of realism with gas-operated guns.
Airsoft Electric Guns
Airsoft Electric Guns dominate the airsofting arena and are the mainstay of the sport. Capable of firing 12-15 rounds per second, with effective ranges of up to and above 30 metres, with magazine capacities of hundreds of rounds, AEGs soon found popularity when they were introduced over a decade ago. Around 95% of those who skirmish regularly will use or own an electric gun. They are simply unmatched in terms of firepower and reliability.
AEGs use a battery powered high-speed motor to drive a set of gears that cocks back a spring-loaded piston to propel the bb forward. At the same time this mechanism loads the bb into the chamber. Typically an AEG produces a muzzle velocity of about 0.8 joules and a rate of fire of about 12-15 rounds per second. All the mechanisms and power source are housed within the gun itself so to the outside it is a faithful replica of the original. There are no trailing wires or hoppers like on paintball guns.
Airsoft Electric Gun Magazines
Standard magazines are loaded either with a spring plunger and are capable of holding 30-120 rounds. There are different categories of magazines as well. In addition to the standard-cap mags there are:
- Real Cap Mags: Magazines which hold exactly the same amount of bbs as its real world (real-steel) counterparts. Loaded the same as a standard cap mag.
- Mid Cap Mag: Magazines which holds a total number of rounds somewhere between that of a standard cap mag and a high-cap mag. Loaded the same as a standard cap mag.
- High Cap Mag: Magazines which hold hundreds of rounds. Perfect for airsoft skirmishing. The magazine is wound by a clockwork wheel located on the base of the magazine. The mag is loaded via a catch, usually on the top of the mag.
- Drum/C Mag: Drum magazines typically hold in excess of 1000 rounds. They cater for the more trigger-happy airsofter.
In addition to this there are hundreds more accessories for Marui Electric Guns. Part of the joy of airsoft is building your own custom weapon to meet your own style of play as well as showing it off in the safe zone!
Where can I play Airsoft in
the UK?
There are hundreds of game sites open up and down the country. Most sites run games from about 9am-5pm in the evening either Saturday or Sunday and charge a "green" fee of around £20 for players to play if they are bring their own equipment. Some sites offer gun rental if you don't have equipment and usually charge an extra £20 for renting. Of course there is nothing to stop you playing own your own land if it is out of public view, however Wolf Armouries suggests that you only visit sites that have full-event insurance. There is also a comprehensive guide to a lot, but not all, UK sites at the following website:
www.airsoftmap.net
Don't Airsoft Guns hurt?
Not really! Airsoft hurts far less than paintball. Paintballs have a very high mass, as they are so large. Airsoft bbs travel just as fast, however they only weigh on average 0.2g, so they don't carry much power when they hit you. If you are wearing the correct safety equipment at most a close-range hit will leave a small welt, which usually disappears after a few minutes and may sting for a few seconds. BBs rarely break the skin, and most medium range shots don't hurt at all. This is in great contrast to paintball, where it is not uncommon for players to be knocked senseless or go home with large bruises on their limbs!
Are Airsoft Guns Legal?
The law governing the sale, importation & manufacture of Airsoft guns and Replica Immitation Firearms (RIFs) in the UK changed on Monday 1st October 2007. As part of the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006(VCRA), in order to purchase any RIF you will need to prove you are a airsoft player or skirmisher. To do this you will need to be on the United Kingdom Airsoft Retailers Association (UKARA) player database. Click here for full details.
Just as before the VCRA, as part of the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2006 (ASBA), when carrying Airsoft replicas in pubic places you must have the replica in a secure manner i.e. in a locked weapons case or closed rifle bag and you must have a legitimate reason for having it about your person i.e. transporting the item to and from a skirmishing site.
Is Airsoft legal in my country?
The legality or Airsoft varies between country. You need to check with your local government whether Airsoft, the importation of Airsoft items or the ownership of Airsoft products is legal. Alternatively visit this website:

How much does Airsoft cost
as a hobby?
Airsofting can be pretty cheap as a hobby, but one thing is for sure...AIRSOFTING IS CHEAPER THAN PAINTBALL.
Thousands of paintballers have converted to Airsoft as they have become disillusioned with the money-hungry paintball industry. If you have your own equipment a day’s play Airsofting will cost you around £25-30 all up depending upon your ammunition, while a day's paintball could cost you nearer £80. This is because bbs are a lot cheaper than paintballs. 100 paintballs might cost £10, but for that same amount you could get 3000 bbs at Wolf Armouries! Like with most hobbies the initial starting costs can be reasonably high (around £300 for a hi-grade electric airsoft rifle with all the accessories) but once you've got the kit it's much cheaper than paintball to play. However you might wish to customise you gun further, or add additional guns to your armoury. The choice is yours. Some players own 1 gun, others own too many to count!
How accurate are Airsoft
Guns?
Airsoft guns are not renowned for their accuracy. The guns fire a lightweight projectile (on average 0.2g) down a smooth barrel at a relatively low velocity (a standard Tokyo Marui AEG will fire at around 285fps). This means that bbs, when fired, can be inherently unstable and can be blown around in flight by air movement. Yet they are far more accurate than paintball guns, and far more consistent in terms of where the rounds go. A standard electric gun can easily hit a 30cm target a 20 metres consistently and a man sized-target at 30m. Pistols in contrast can easily achieve a 25mm grouping at 10metres, achieving less accuracy at longer ranges. In theory airsoft guns can be more accurate than this, but it really depends on the shooting skills of the user!!! An airsoft gun in hands of a skilled shooter can be a highly accuracy shooting piece.
What range do Airsoft Guns
have?
Range is everything in airsoft!!! With the HOP-unit correctly set a standard AEG should be able engage with a change of hitting the target at 30-35 metres, while a pistol nearer 20-25 metres. Upgraded Electrics can potentially fire about 10% further, while high-powered sniper rifles out beyond the 50-metre mark!
Do you sell spring guns?
WOLF ARMOURIES DOES NOT SELL CHEAP SPRING HANDGUNS!!!
The only spring items we sell are high grade spring powered shotguns and sniper rifles. We do not sell cheap spring pistols like some other ‘airsoft’ retailers.
Are Airsoft Guns suitable
for Children?
Due to their low power, reliability, easy of use and weight Airsoft Replicas are ideal for teaching children gun awareness. However they should be treated as real-guns, and children should be supervised by an adult while using them and must wear all the correct safety equipment. Wolf Armouries will not sell a gun to anyone under the age of 18. We do not recommend that children under the age of 14 should use airsoft replicas.
How does an Airsoft Electric
Gun (AEG) work?
AEGs use a battery powered high-speed motor to drive a set of gears that cocks back a spring-loaded piston to propel the bb forward. At the same time this mechanism loads the bb into the chamber and produces a muzzle velocity of about 0.8 joules and a rate of fire of about 12-15 rounds per second. All the mechanisms and power source are housed within the gun itself so to the outside it is a faithful replica of the original. There are no trailing wires or hoppers like on paintball guns. Standard magazines are loaded either with a spring plunger and are capable of holding 30-120 rounds. While after market hi-caps driven by clockwork are available (and considered the norm for skirmishing) and are capable of holding 180-5000 rounds!
What do I require to operate
an Airsoft Electric Gun?
The cheapest way of buying the equipment you need to operate an airsoft electric gun is to buy a Wolf Armouries Starter Pack. This includes battery/ies, charger (with charger leads if applicable), silicone maintenance spray, 3000 0.2 bbs and a hi-capacity magazine. This is everything you need to get started.
Do the rifles come with
batteries and chargers?
In general No. Rifles do not come with batteries and/or chargers, but they are available separatly. Contact Us at info @ wolfarmouries . co . uk for details on specific chargers and batteries. Some China Airsoft guns do come with batteries and chargers however. You need to find the capacity of the battery (in mAh) and the output of the charger (in mA) to calculate a relevant charging time.
How long will my batteries
last?
Generally a standard airsoft electric will fire 1500-1800 rounds from a Ni-Mh 8.4volt 1200 mAh battery. Upgraded guns with stronger springs tend to consume about 10-25% extra battery power. A general rule is that every mAh gives your around 1.5 shots.
How does an Airsoft Gas
Blow-back Work?
95% of the gas airsoft guns that Wolf Armouries sell are gas blowback guns. This means that when they are fired the gas enters a chamber within the gun before propelling the bb, when a set pressure is reach within the chamber a piston forces the cylinder back and cocks the mechanism. Basically this means that when you firing a gas blow-back the action cycles just like the real thing and the gun produces and small kick as it chambers each round. If you want realism buy a gas blowback! On most of the models the mechanism is locks open when the magazine is empty just like the real thing.
What do I require to operate
an Airsoft Gas Blow-Back?
All you need to operate your gas blow back are hi-quality bbs (remember not to re use them), the correct type of gas (call us if you are unsure of what brand of gas you need for your airsoft model) and silicone spray. Airsoft guns do not come with gas or silicone spray, and usually only come with 50-100 sample bbs. These products simply must be bought to operate your gas blowback. Silicone must be used to lubricate the gas seals and working parts of gas guns otherwise full-operating power will not be achieved. We'd suggest applying silicone oil/spray your airsoft replica every 10-20 magazines worth. Silicone lubricant should be applied to the top and bottom seal of the magazine as well as on any moving parts of a gas-blow-back. NB: WD40 or oil-based lubricants should not be used, as they will react with plastic and rubbers parts causing severe damage. Only use gas, bbs and silicone spray recommended by Wolf Armouries to prolong the life of your Airsoft gas blowback!
How long will my gas last?
How long is a piece of string? The length of time a can of gas costing £10-£15 lasts, varies with regards to air temperature and the model of gun. Obviously guns that have larger magazine hold more gas so you will get fewer charges from a can of gas. Similarly in hot weather some guns can use less gas as the gas expands more in the reservoir. Generally each time you charge a pistol magazine you will get 2.5 bbs worth fired from that magazine. As a generally rule of thumb you should get 15-20 medium charges out of a can of gas. Will still makes it cheaper than running a paintball marker or CO2 air pistol.
Do gas pistols and rifles come with gas and bbs?
No. Most pistols and rifles will come with a small packet of bbs but no items come with gas. You'll either need summer or winter gas depending on time of year, and type of gun. Call us for more info on the gas you'll need for a particular item.
What is a HOP unit?
HOP systems were introduced to Airsoft replicas on wide scale in the early 1990s. HOP, or Higher-Operating Power, potentially improves the range of airsoft replicas by 50%. A hop-unit is a rubber (hop rubber) chamber around the breach end of the replica's barrel, a small rubber dimple (hop bucking) at the top of this chamber pushes pressure on bbs as they pass through the barrel, giving them a back-spin, modifying their trajectory to give them more range. An adjustable HOP-unit allows the user to adjust the amount of backspin. This is useful, as it means you can get the maximum range out of different weights of bbs, or turn the hop off completely for additional accuracy from a flat trajectory. Hop units can be fiddly to adjust to start with but it's easy to get the hang of it.
How can I upgrade my guns?
Pretty much any airsoft gun can be upgraded. Upgrade parts refer to the internal workings of the gun i.e. they improve accuracy, range or rate of fire. An upgraded gun offers the airsofter a big advantage in a firefight, allowing players to perform sharpshooter, sniper or support gunner roles. However modifying the internals of airsoft guns is a bit of a black art, and should not be considered lightly. Airsoft guns, especially electric rifles are complicated pieces of equipment full of springs and parts that are liable to fly out if you take them apart without correctly researching on the web what you are doing. It is for this reason that Wolf Armouries offer an upgrade service for a minimal fee, our engineer can internally upgrade most electric and gas-blow backs on site within a short time period. The most common upgrade that is undertaken on a Tokyo Marui AEG is a full internal upgrade. This increases the power of the AEG to around 328fps.
Don't hesitate to call us to discuss your upgrade requirements, and we can tailor an internal parts package to meet your requirements.
What Accessories are
available for Airsoft Guns?
There are thousands of accessories available for airsoft guns and part of the joy of airsofting is that not only can you skirmish with your airsoft gun; but you can customise it as well. Building a unique airsoft gun that reflects you own style of play is an important aspect of airsofting and there are simply thousands of accessories available.
[Please note that not all guns have custom parts available for them. Wolf Armouries has an in house engineer capable of fitting most custom parts available. Please call us for details.] All customisation done privately cannot be warrantied and all parts used in the process immediately loses its warranty. Your warranty is IMMEDIATELY VOIDED if any product bought from us is opened in ANY way.
What Safety/Protective
gear do I require to play?
Safety
equipment is not a luxury in airsoft; it is a minimum. Eye protection must be warn at all times when using airsoft replicas; even when target shooting in the back garden. Even a reflected bb has enough power to do serious eye damage so impact rated eye protection such as goggles is the minimum. If you don't fancy goggles then we'd suggest full-face protection. Basically this takes the form of a paintball mask that covers the face, the ears and the eyes, completely protecting the user from the effects of a bb. However many people prefer Airsofting in goggles as it is less hot and offers a better field of vision, yet you do run the risk of being hit in the face or mouth which can be painful. Wolf Armouries stocks a comprehensive range of goggles and Full-Face Masks manufactured by companies such as Guarder, Bollé and J Tech. Other safety equipment might include replica body armour (to absorb bb impacts), gloves, neoprene facemasks, ankle high boots and many more. Wolf Armouries stocks a large range of safety equipment and we suggest you consider all of them to ensure that you are as safe as possible while gaming. If someone in seriously injured airsofting due to irresponsibility everyone's day or hobby could be ruined.
What other equipment or
clothing might I require for airsofting?
As long as you have the correct safety equipment you don't really anything more to go airsofting or airsoft skirmishing. However we at Wolf would recommend that you definitely consider in investing in some camouflage combats and some form of load-bearing equipment. Wearing combats and webbing is not only tactically useful; i.e. it conceals you from other players and is an effective way of carrying your playing kit but it makes the game more fun and realistic. Many airsoft players invest lots of time and money into their equipment trying to achieve as realistic a look as possible, trying to mimic the equipment style of actual military forces such as the SAS or the US Delta Force. Most airsoft players will also customise their load-out to suit the airsoft site the play on, for instance in a woodland site, a player is more likely to use a green based camouflage. We suggest that as a minimum for site play that you consider buying some combat trousers, a combat jacket, load bearing vest or webbing, military boots with ankle support and some form of thick cap or helmet. This can by no means be expensive. Wolf stock a wide range of reasonably priced tactical gear.
What type of bb should I be using?
There are many different types of bbs on the market. The simple rule is don't buy cheap bbs; they are generally poorly made and contain micro deformities that may cause the bbs to jam in the barrel of an airsoft gun and lead to the gun becoming damaged. They are usually brightly coloured (yellow is most common) and must be avoided in Airsoft replicas. Wolf Armouries only sells high-grade bbs. A second key rule is never re-use bbs. Once fired they can become deformed and pick up dirt that can, again, cause jamming. Thirdly, never be tempted into buying paintball or exploding bbs. They may seem like fun but they can and usually will explode in the mechanism leading to internal damage and possibly an expensive repair bill. Simply don't bother with them! There are many different weights of bbs available. Those commonly stocked by Wolf Armouries are 0.20g, 0.25g, 0.28g, 0.30g, 0.36g and 0.43g. In a standard electric rifle or pistol 0.2g is the best all rounder. Heavier weights are more for upgraded rifles and offer increased accuracy and stability. Super-heavy weight bbs should only be used in high-powered upgraded guns such as sniper rifles where accuracy over-distance is required. Most sites state that only biodegradable bbs must be used. BBs that are degradable are stated as so on our website.
8mm calibres (again in differing weights) are also available for rare 8mm airsoft guns (all Wolf Airsoft guns are 6mm unless otherwise specified).
What happens if my gun goes
wrong?
Like any machine, airsoft guns are capable of going wrong. However they are unlikely to break through part-failure; the majority of guns break through misuse or de-stabilising customisation work. As standard an electric airsoft gun is a well-tuned highly balanced machine, potentially even with regular use the guns can last a long time. If you know how to use your gun, look after it and use high quality bbs, batteries or gas then guns can last a very long time. Customising your airsoft electric is great fun and a good way of making your gun unique. However modified or custom guns in some cases are less stable than standard guns. The best way to keep your AEG reliable is not to do anything to it at all! Upgrades provide more power and fun but can cause problems if they aren't fitting correctly or in conjunction with the correct parts. Higher-powered springs may unbalance the gun internals and put excess pressure on other parts of the gun. Similarly, after market external parts may require a degree of skill to fit and may lead to loose fittings or furniture on the gun. That's why we suggest that if you aren't completely confident fitting custom parts you can contact the engineer at Wolf Armouries, who for a small fee can carry out the custom work you require ensuring full reliability. All customisation done privately cannot be warrantied and all parts used in the process immediately loses its warranty. Your warranty is IMMEDIATELY VOIDED if any product bought from us is opened in ANY way. The guns do not include a manufacturers warranty, as they are designated for sale abroad but all Wolf Armouries guns (unless specified) include a 1-month return to base warranty free of charge. The majority of guns if they break as a result of standard parts failure will do so within the first 4 weeks. Wolf Armouries stock a comprehensive range of spare internal and external parts for most of the replicas we sell.

Due to the nature of Airsoft products (perishable), all goods to be returned under this policy have to be in an unused, and brand new condition and in original packaging with no exceptions.
We do not and cannot in anyway cover the postage costs of you returning the product to us or refund you the initial postage cost/s.
Exceptions to the right of return
-Airsoft products (perishable) that have been used or tested in anyway.
-Airsoft products agreed upon and made to customer's specification or clearly personalised. This includes painted guns to comply with VCRA regulations.
- CD, DVD, tapes with software, audio or video products if unsealed by customer.
China Gun Information
All China guns come with a 1 month warranty. The external surface quality cannot be guaranteed as they may have slight flaws or imperfections. The external surfaces/quality of metals/plastics cannot be covered under warranty as the materials used are often of low quality.
Most China AEGs come complete with a number of accessories including a battery and charger. Please note ALL accessories are free extras and should been seen as such. They may not be of high quality, which is why we recommend using a higher quality battery and charger for safety reasons. We cannot offer any guarantee on the bundled accessories and, in most circumstances, cannot replace them if they are faulty.
China guns are copies of, mainly, Tokyo Marui and Maruzen airsoft guns, they may even copy the instruction manuales from the japanese suppliers and add or take away some accessories without changing the listings in the instructions. They are designed to accept the same parts such as magazines and batteries and many of the parts are interchangeable and up/downgradable. Due to the lower quality of China guns, although copied from, original parts (mainly magazines) may be slightly tight or loose fitting.
